ALPFA USC Student Chapter 2006-2007

Over the past few months the ALPFA - USC Chapter accomplished many strategic goals, which  included increasing membership, developing consistent attendance, and creating strong brand recognition and reputation within the USC community. The attendance at on-campus meetings increased dramatically through an affective marketing campaign that showcased the many benefits of ALPFA membership and highlighted the numerous networking opportunities. The panel at the first official meeting was composed by professionals from the Big Four accounting firms and financial institutions, who spoke about career opportunities in accounting and finance. Over forty students attended the meeting and were thoroughly impressed by the professionalism and networking opportunities available.

This semester the board has great plans to increase membership by enhancing member's experience, and most importantly improving visibility on campus by positively impacting our Trojan community.

Enhancing member’s experiences is the key to increasing membership, and we will do this by providing useful seminars to review resumes, conduct mock interviews, and most importantly, offer the opportunity for our members to meet professionals.  Additionally, the Membership Gala will recognize exceptional ALPFA members and professionals that made outstanding contributions to the USC Chapter.

On the other hand, improving visibility is vital to establishing ALPFA within the USC community. The board is excited to announce the Diversity Expo that will take place in late March. This event provides an opportunity for students from different minority groups to learn of the many challenges we must overcome in Corporate America.  We would like to provide them with the window to ask questions that at times we are afraid or unable to raise.  Most importantly, we would like our students to learn of the different accounting a finance career opportunities with our sponsored companies.

Overall, this year has been very successful for the ALPFA - USC chapter. We are excited to continue our work and strive to enhance opportunities within accounting, finance, and related professions.
